Following his speech the cabinet approved the FAME 2 policy a week later. Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME 2) was much awaited and to our surprise the Government allocated whooping Rs.10,000 Crore to FAME 2.
Phased Manufacturing Program (PMP) is focused in localizing production of EV components including battery packs..
According to PM Modi , the PMP will spur the adoption of EVs in a course of four years in a well defines manner.
India has to go a long way in the field of electric vehicles and has to overcome many challenges like the lack of charging infrastructure. When FAME 2 was released Government allocated Rs.1000 crore for setting up charging stations. This could prove a kick start to solve the problem of charging infrastructure.
